CAD DESIGN

What does CAD design mean?

CAD (Computer-Aided Design) is a form of digital modeling in which products and parts are designed with precision in 2D and 3D formats. A well-designed CAD model speeds up production, reduces errors, and improves the quality of the final product.

CAD models serve as the foundation for the entire manufacturing process—especially in CNC machining, where toolpaths are created directly from the 3D model using CAM programming. We design parts and structures using modern tools such as SolidWorks, taking into account manufacturability, materials, dimensional accuracy, and assembly requirements.

CAD DESIGN · TECHNICAL DRAWINGS

Technical Drawings – The Language of Manufacturing

If your product does not yet have technical drawings, we will create them for you. The drawings will include all information relevant to manufacturing:

  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM) Assessment
  • Selection of Materials and Machining Methods
  • Prototype Design and Iteration
  • Optimizing Cost Efficiency

Our goal is to make the design and manufacturing process as seamless as possible—from start to finish.

Service Process – How the Collaboration Progresses

Amak’s service process is designed to make technical design and machining as smooth and efficient as possible. We operate flexibly according to our customers’ needs—whether it’s a single prototype or a product development project aimed at mass production.

Needs Assessment and Start of Planning

  • Our collaboration begins with a discussion in which we clarify the product’s intended use, requirements, ideas, production volumes, and timelines.
  • If necessary, we provide assistance as early as the concept development phase and highlight manufacturing considerations to ensure that the product is optimized for production from the very beginning.

CAD Design and Modeling

  • We design a 3D model of the product using modern CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).
  • We take into account design for manufacturability (DFM), material selection, dimensional tolerances, and assembly requirements.
  • The CAD model serves as the basis for both technical drawings and CAM programming.

Technical Drawings and Documentation

  • We prepare the necessary manufacturing and assembly drawings, which include precise dimensions and tolerances, materials and surface treatments, and assembly instructions.
  • We provide drawings and models in common file formats (PDF, DWG/DXF, STEP/IGES) so that they can be easily used in various manufacturing processes.

Manufacturing Technical Support

  • We help our customers make the right choices right from the design phase: we assess manufacturability and select the appropriate materials and machining methods.
  • Our goal is to make the design and manufacturing process as seamless as possible—from start to finish.

Manufacturing and Prototypes

  • We can build a prototype based on the design and support the transition to mass production.
  • Prototypes can be used to test a product’s functionality and make any necessary changes before moving on to larger-scale production.

CAD DESIGN · BENEFITS

How does CAD design benefit a company?

  • Precise and efficient design: CAD software is used to create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models, ensuring that parts are designed correctly the first time.
  • Virtual Testing and Optimization: Designs can be simulated and analyzed before manufacturing. This allows for the optimization of component functionality and structure without the need for physical prototypes—saving time and money.
  • Direct link to manufacturing: CAD models serve as a direct basis for CNC machining and other manufacturing processes. They can be transferred to CAM programming without any intermediate steps, which speeds up production and reduces errors.
  • Faster product development: Computer-aided design speeds up the entire process. Repetitive tasks can be automated, and making changes is quick and controlled.
  • Flexibility for a variety of needs: CAD design is suitable for a wide range of products—from small mechanical components to complex assemblies. It supports both individual prototypes and mass production.
  • Highly accurate and easily customizable models: Digital models enable precise sizing and a quick response to changes—without having to start the entire design process from scratch.
  • Clear visual presentation: 3D modeling helps visualize a product’s structure and functionality even before manufacturing begins. This improves communication and decision-making at various stages of the project.
  • Easy collaboration and information sharing: CAD files can be shared and edited among multiple parties. This facilitates smooth collaboration between, for example, the customer, the designer, and the manufacturer.

“As volumes increased, one of our customers saved a significant amount of time during the assembly phase when we designed and manufactured an enclosure around the circuit board and other components,” says Teemu Vaistila, CEO of Amak.

CAD DESIGN · FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

CAD (Computer-Aided Design) is a computer-aided design process in which precise 2D drawings and 3D models of products are created. These models are used to support manufacturing, documentation, and product development.

Yes. You can order just CAD design, technical drawings, or 3D models from us, even if you don’t use us for manufacturing. We offer flexible service packages.

We provide drawings and models in the most common formats: PDF (printable drawings), DWG/DXF (2D CAD drawings), and/or STEP/IGES (3D models).

Absolutely. We can start with hand-drawn sketches or even just an idea. We’ll help you develop it into a finished product.

The timeline depends on the scope of the project. Simple parts can be designed and manufactured quickly, while more complex assemblies require more time. We always strive for fast and efficient delivery.

Yes. We also offer prototype manufacturing, which allows you to test the product in practice before mass production.

Our collaboration begins with a needs assessment, after which we move on to planning, drawing up blueprints, and, if necessary, manufacturing. See a more detailed description of our service process or call Teemu at (09) 350 78831
